01 -
In a large bowl, combine the yeast, a teaspoon of sugar, and a quarter of the warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes so it foams up and activates.
02 -
Throw the flour, the rest of the sugar and salt, the remaining milk, the egg, vanilla extract, and the softened butter into the bowl. Knead it all together by hand for 5-7 minutes until it's smooth and pulls away from the sides.
03 -
Place the dough in a bowl you've greased with oil, cover it up with cling film, and leave it someplace warm for around an hour to double in size.
04 -
Divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape each into a round bun. Arrange them on parchment paper on a baking tray, cover gently with a tea towel, and let them sit for 15-20 minutes.
05 -
While the buns are resting, set your oven to 350°F (180°C) so it can preheat.
06 -
Mix the cream cheese, icing sugar, the egg, and vanilla in a bowl until it’s creamy and smooth. Scoop it into a piping bag with a plain tip.
07 -
Use a flour-dusted glass to press down the centers of the buns, making a little dip. Pipe cream cheese filling inside, sprinkle in fresh blueberries, and brush the edges with the beaten egg for a nice shine.
08 -
Bake for about 20 minutes until golden. Once done, cool the buns on a rack before enjoying.
09 -
Before serving, sprinkle the buns with a dusting of powdered sugar.
