Buttery Garlic Breadsticks (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dough

01 - 1 1/4 cups warm water
02 - 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
03 - 4 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
04 - 2 tablespoons sugar
05 - 2 tablespoons softened butter
06 - 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast

→ Topping

07 - 1/2 teaspoon oregano
08 - 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
09 - 3 tablespoons melted butter
10 - 1/2 teaspoon salt

# Instructions:

01 - Mix 1/4 cup of warm water with the yeast in a bowl. Swirl it gently and leave it for 5 minutes to bubble up.
02 - Put sugar, butter, salt, and 4 cups of flour into the bowl of a mixer. Pour in the yeast mixture and the remaining water. Stir it all up until it's sticky.
03 - Toss in another 1/4 cup of flour and keep kneading until the dough feels smooth and soft.
04 - Sprinkle flour on your counter and split the dough in two. Roll each half into a 12-inch log, slice them into 8 pieces, and shape each one into a breadstick about 7 inches long.
05 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the breadsticks on it, spaced about 1-1.5 inches apart. Cover with a cloth and let them puff up in a warm place for 45 minutes.
06 - Set your oven to 400°F. Paint the breadsticks with half of the topping mixture.
07 - Pop the breadsticks into the oven and bake for around 12-15 minutes, until they start looking golden.
08 - Take the breadsticks out of the oven and immediately coat them with the leftover butter mixture.

# Notes:

01 - You'll end up with 16 breadsticks, ideal for sharing at dinner. If you want fewer, just cut the ingredients in half.
02 - If you're in a rush, use store-bought frozen bread dough—one loaf makes 8 breadsticks. Defrosted dinner rolls work too, though they'll be smaller.
