01 -
Mix 1/4 cup of warm water with the yeast in a bowl. Swirl it gently and leave it for 5 minutes to bubble up.
02 -
Put sugar, butter, salt, and 4 cups of flour into the bowl of a mixer. Pour in the yeast mixture and the remaining water. Stir it all up until it's sticky.
03 -
Toss in another 1/4 cup of flour and keep kneading until the dough feels smooth and soft.
04 -
Sprinkle flour on your counter and split the dough in two. Roll each half into a 12-inch log, slice them into 8 pieces, and shape each one into a breadstick about 7 inches long.
05 -
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the breadsticks on it, spaced about 1-1.5 inches apart. Cover with a cloth and let them puff up in a warm place for 45 minutes.
06 -
Set your oven to 400°F. Paint the breadsticks with half of the topping mixture.
07 -
Pop the breadsticks into the oven and bake for around 12-15 minutes, until they start looking golden.
08 -
Take the breadsticks out of the oven and immediately coat them with the leftover butter mixture.
