Think Philly meets Sloppy Joe in this tasty twist! Ground beef mixed with bell peppers, onions, and topped with gooey provolone all piled on a soft bun. It's a quick family meal that brings two comfort food favorites together perfectly.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 1 pound ground beef: Makes up the hearty base that keeps everyone full and happy.
  • 1 onion, finely chopped: Brings natural sweetness and tons of flavor to the meat mix.
  • 1 green pepper, finely chopped: Adds color and a slight crunch to balance the texture.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced: Gives that must-have savory kick to the whole dish.
  • 1/4 cup ketchup: Creates the sweet base for our sauce mixture.
  • 1/4 cup steak sauce: Adds that rich, tangy flavor that makes everything taste better.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce: Brings depth and that can't-quite-place-it goodness.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste: Just enough to make all the flavors pop.
  • 4 hamburger buns: The perfect soft carriers for all that saucy goodness.
  • 8 slices provolone cheese: Melts beautifully for that signature cheesy pull.

COOKING STEPS

Step 1:
Brown the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Once it's no longer pink, drain off the extra fat.
Step 2:
Toss the chopped onion, green pepper, and garlic into the same pan with the meat. Let everything cook together until the veggies get soft and the onions turn clear, about 5 minutes.
Step 3:
Mix in your ketchup, steak sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir everything well so the meat and veggies get coated in that yummy sauce. Let it bubble away for 3-4 minutes until it thickens up nicely.
Step 4:
Cut open your hamburger buns and give them a quick toast in the oven or toaster.
Step 5:
Put one slice of provolone on each bottom bun, scoop the hot meat mixture on top, then crown it with another slice of cheese.
Step 6:
Cap each sandwich with the top bun and eat them right away while the cheese is all melty and the filling is hot.

How to Serve & Store

  • Eat Right Away: These taste way better fresh when the cheese is all melty and stretchy.
  • Good Sides: Throw some potato chips or a green salad on the plate to round out your meal.
  • Save Leftovers: Any extra meat mix keeps in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just warm it up before making more sandwiches.

Pro Cooking Advice

  • Chef's Tip: Cook those onions and peppers until they turn golden brown for extra flavor in every bite.
  • Another Chef's Tip: Want it spicier? Splash in some hot sauce or swap the provolone for pepper jack.

SWITCH IT UP

  • Heat Lovers: Mix in some chopped jalapeños or a few drops of your favorite hot sauce for a fiery version.
  • Mushroom Magic: Throw in some cooked mushrooms for a meatier, more savory sandwich experience.
  • Watching Carbs: Skip the bun and pile the meat mix on lettuce cups or over riced cauliflower instead.
  • Different Cheeses: Try it with sharp cheddar or spicy pepper jack for a whole new flavor combo.
